We were at the magnificent Espace Gare Viger’s reception hall, where Bombardier Inc. and the National Bank of Canada were pleased to invite us to the majestic Bye Bye Allergies Gala, benefiting the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.

The funds from the event will be used to finance the activities of the new oral immunotherapy clinic (OITC).

Mr. John Di Bert, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Bombardier Inc., was the honorary president for this festive evening. 400 guests were invited from the business community, who were entertained with love and silent auctions, a raffle, musical guests and dancing.

Also present during the evening was former Prime Minister Paul Martin who very warmly supported this specific cause in his speech.

The goal was to raise more than $200.000 and the evening achieved its goal with the amount of $276.126!!!

Bye Bye Allergies, a non-profit organization founded in 2015, has raised over 1.2 million dollars to fund the opening of an oral immunotherapy clinic (OITC) at the CHU Sainte-Justine, and to support its activities.

It is the first public (non-research) OITC in Quebec and in Canada to offer this innovating and life-changing treatment to children with severe food allergies. It hasbeen designated as a pilot project in Quebec for the treatment of food allergies in children and has recently been recognized at the 2019 CHU Sainte-Justine gala for its excellence in innovation.

Bye Bye Allergies’ mission is to promote access to a safe and effective treatment to all children living with life-threatening food allergies. Oral immunotherapy offers unparalleled hope to families dealing with severe food allergies, who live in constant fear of a potentially fatal allergic reaction due to a food allergen. This treatment offers unprecedented protection against accidental exposure to an allergen, which is a life-changing experience for both the children undergoing treatment and for their families.

Since the opening of the OITC clinic in 2017 over 250 children are in the process of evaluation or treatment. Over 100 children have been desensitized to their allergens and are protected from an accidental exposure. Success rate of treatment is 90%. Over 50 newborns have been desensitized and their food allergies eradicated.

The objectives of the gala are to support the optimization of treatment of food allergies at the OITC clinic of the CHU Sainte-Justine, and to support research and training in oral immunotherapy.

The CHU Sainte-Justine has positioned itself as one of the top 10 mother-child hospital centres in the world, thanks to its pursuit of excellence in medical care, research, education, and health promotion. Its qualified team of allergists at the OITC have acquired a solid expertise in oral immunotherapy. In addition to directly providing treatment to a large number of children, this centre will be conducting research to optimize patient care and will oversee the implementation of this new treatment in community practices across the province. It will therefore impact the lives of thousands of children and families living with life-threatening food allergies all over Quebec.

So let’s have a look at this very special event all in the name of love for our children and their health !
