Whether it’s an injury or a persistent symptom—a new app is making it easier to get the medical attention you need. “Certainly, if it’s something we can save people leaving time from work, that’s great. If it’s a mom whose got kids at home and she doesn’t want to leave sick kids, she can use it that way,” said Dr. Karen Calkins, a convenient care physician with Lee Health.
Using your phone, computer, or iPad, Lee Telehealth connects patients virtually with a health expert of their choice. “It reaches the people in rural or farther away areas, so they don’t have to get in their car and drive an hour, wait at a clinic, they can just do it at the comfort of their home,” she said.
Things like headaches, stomach aches, allergies, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, even injuries can all be diagnosed through Lee Telehealth. “You can definitely talk to the patient, you can see the patient, get clues from how they look, how they’re breathing, their cough, you can hear how they sound, and you can diagnose,” said Dr. Calkins.
Doctors can also e-prescribe medication if necessary—but for things like stitches, x-rays, or more serious medical conditions, patients will need to be seen in person. “I think it’s a good option in certain circumstances,” she said.
An option to help patients get quick medical help without having to go to a clinic.
